How It Works
the classic 15-puzzle, sliced from a random savanna animal portrait.
Objective
Restore a scrambled 4×4 image by sliding tiles into order. Numbers must read 1 through 15 with the empty slot in the bottom-right corner, which completes the picture.
Controls
On your phone
Tap any tile sharing a row or column with the empty slot — every tile between your tap and the gap slides over.
On desktop
Click a tile in the empty slot's row or column to shift the whole strip.
Scoring
Tips
Scoring
Sliding Puzzle — 4×4 rewards both efficiency (few moves) and speed (low time). Each “budget” pays out separately.
How the score is calculated
You have a move budget of 300 and a time budget of 300 seconds. Every move you don’t use earns 100 points; every second you don’t use earns 50 points. Whichever budget you blow first stops contributing to your score.
score = max(0, 300 − moves) × 100 + max(0, 300 − seconds) × 50
Worked examples
What ends the round
The round ends the moment the tiles snap into the correct order. There’s no “loss” state — if both budgets hit zero you can still finish, you’ll just submit 0.
