How It Works
the Southern African game of cows and mills, against a quick tactical AI.
Objective
You play the Red Caps; the computer plays the Green Caps. Each side starts with twelve cows. You win when the AI is reduced to fewer than three cows on the board, or has no legal move on its turn.
Controls
On your phone
Tap an empty point to place a cow; tap one of your Red cows to select it, then tap a glowing point to slide it there. After forming a mill, tap a pulsing red-outlined enemy cow to capture it.The board pauses while the AI thinks.
On desktop
Click to place, click to select, click a glowing target to move. Tap New Game any time to restart.
Phases
- Placing: Take turns dropping cows until all 24 are on the board. Red goes first.
- Moving: Slide one of your cows along a marked line to an adjacent empty point.
- Flying: Once you're down to your last three cows, they can jump to any empty point.
- Mills: Three-in-a-row on any marked line (including the corner diagonals) lets you capture an opposing cow. Cows inside an active mill are protected unless every enemy cow is in one.
Tips
Scoring
Morabaraba — vs Computer is a time-based ladder. Beat the AI; the clock decides your score.
How the score is calculated
From the moment the board appears, a clock ticks up in the scoreboard. When you reduce the AI to fewer than three cows (or lock it out of every legal move), the clock stops and your score is locked in:
score = max(500, 10000 − seconds × 5)
Worked examples
Losses and stalemates
If the AI reduces you to fewer than three cows, you get a 0 for that round. The play still closes cleanly and counts toward your play total — it just doesn’t set a personal best.
